Our pupils visited the manufacturing plant of Zimmer Biomet in Shannon where they were welcomed by Lisa Byrnes an engineer and parent to Millie in senior infants. She introduced us to Claire who gave the pupils a highly informative and interesting talk on the work of the company. Zimmer Biomet manufactures various joint replacements for knee, shoulder and hip. Claire demonstrated the various parts used for different parts of the body. Lisa and a fellow worker took the pupils on a tour of the factory floor. The pupils were fascinated watching the robots and workers doing highly skilled work on these joint replacements. This was followed by tasty refreshments in a boardroom. Following this interesting tour many of our pupils will be enthused to follow a career path in engineering and science in the future. Thank you Lisa.
